Welcome to fika time
Welcome to Fika Time! Grab a cup of coffee and something sweet, and let’s take some time to get acquainted. My name is John and I am privileged to work at Holsby Bible School & Retreat Center, a place where many people from all over the world were first introduced to the concept of fika. For those of you who have never been to Holsby, in the beautiful forests of southern Sweden, fika is what the locals call a coffee break. Fika can be enjoyed by anyone at almost anytime of the day, but it should preferably not be experienced alone. Fika is just as much a time for fellowship as it is for refreshment.
We are followers of Jesus Christ, who was known for often sitting down with people to enjoy a break and some food and drink. This blog is dedicated to Him and to the life He brings to those who will take the time to share some fika with Him.
What can you expect to see on the pages of this blog? We have all kinds of audacious plans for informative, inspirational and interactive content about life at Holsby. There will be news and photos, thoughts to ponder and information to share, audio podcasts and video clips, reports from staff and stories from students – all in a warm, inviting and informal atmosphere befitting a traditional fika time.
We are new at this blogging thing, but we do know that the success of a blog will be measured not only by the number of its readers, but by the quality of the interaction it creates. So, we encourage your participation through comments to the blog posts, in suggestions you make for features and content, and in the networking with other friends of Holsby that results.
In Sweden, fika can be used as a verb as well as a noun, so we invite you to check in often and fika with us! It’s fika time!
Great to see Holsby blogging! And isn’t Fika brilliant?
Student & Summer Staff, 2001-2002.
