Midsummer celebration

by Jonathan Miller - Director of Camps & Retreats

It’s fika time at the annual Holsby midsummer celebration! This year God sent us well over 500 guests to spend a day with family and friends and enjoy a bit of Swedish tradition. God provided ideal weather despite the forecast for showers. We had a beautiful day and our guests enjoyed the program of music, folk dancing and numerous activities for all ages, including the high ropes course, giant swing and “pamper pole.”

It was obvious that people had a blast! We sang and danced and had lots of fun, but more important was the chance we had to share both the love and truth of Jesus our Savior. Luke Thomas shared the very explicit message of the indwelling life of Continue Reading →

Slow Down

by Holsby Student

Each year, Holsby is blessed with a lot of creative students, with talent in music, photography, art, graphics, video and so much more. Julie Lind (from Denmark) and Nathan Peters (Canada) are two such students from the 2011-12 school year. While at Holsby, Julie and Nathan collaborated on a music video entitled “Slow Down,” featuring an original song by Julie.

Here is what they had to say about their time at Holsby:

Julie: “A lot of us come to Holsby to figure out our lives, and work on our relationship with God. To me that meant putting aside my stressful everyday life for a while and really surrender to God. And that is exactly Continue Reading →

Holsby alum in Asia

by Donna Schoon - Support Staff

Imagine our surprise when we learned about a Holsby “alum” way over in Asia!

Yes, Wally and I went to visit our son and his family a month ago. Our daughter-in-law had just returned from a spring trip with the high school senior class. One day she said – You’ll never guess who we met on this trip. And so the story unfolded about one of our Holsby alums (from 1978-79) now serving in this Asian country.

I wrote to her to find out more about what they are involved with. And she responded …

“Holsby and Capernwray were such an important time for me as God did so much work in my life and drew me close to Himself. I am so thankful for the time I had at both schools.

While in university I felt the Lord calling me to this country. I came in 1985 to do two years Continue Reading →

EAT RIGHT by Brad Strohm

by Holsby Staff

Imagine a time when you were highly anticipating a night out with a special friend. You picked the restaurant and you were looking forward to putting aside other thoughts or distractions for a moment and enjoying the companionship, atmosphere and good food the night had to offer. Now imagine the disappointment or frustration you must have felt when the waiter was annoyingly talkative and disruptive, and the food came out cold and dry. You come expecting wonderful fellowship with your friend, only for it to be soured by the service of the restaurant. This is a scenario that we would like to avoid here at Holsby.

We in the Holsby kitchen wish that your experience during your stay here would be enhanced by how Continue Reading →

Spring groups 2012

by Jonathan Miller - Director of Camps & Retreats

What’s going on with Camps and Retreats these days? Well, let me tell you. My name is Jonathan and I work with the spring and summer camps here at Holsby. This spring season the Lord has blessed us with full camps and a great staff to share Jesus’ love and truth with our guests.

This past week I was talking with a guy named John who has been coming to Holsby for over eight years. He started visiting as a child with his church and now he is back leading his youth group to Holsby, Continue Reading →

Welcome to fika time

by John Poysti - Director

Welcome to Fika Time! Grab a cup of coffee and something sweet, and let’s take some time to get acquainted. My name is John and I am privileged to work at Holsby Bible School & Retreat Center, a place where many people from all over the world were first introduced to the concept of fika. For those of you who have never been to Holsby, in the beautiful forests of southern Sweden, fika is what the locals call a coffee break. Fika can be enjoyed by anyone at almost anytime of the day, but it should preferably not be experienced alone. Fika is just as much a time for fellowship as it is for refreshment.

We are followers of Jesus Christ, who was Continue Reading →
